Les derniers enfants du Causse is an ode to the rural schools of France threatened with closure or merger with other educational establishments. With delicacy and tenderness, this choreographed story, based on a scenario written during a choreography workshop with pupils from Saint-Martin-Labouval in the Lot region, underlines the importance of the 400 elementary school affected by this reform. On the eve of their school's closure, the youngsters perform a moving dance, freely inspired by "Chant des pierres" by Michel Galaret (storyteller and former pupil of this school in the 60s).
Through this metaphorical tale, the film bears witness to the importance of valuing rural roots for future generations. A poetic response to a glaring socio-political problem.
The choreographic film was built around the notion of authenticity (cultural, identity, emotional, natural, ecological), resulting in a film shot like a sequence on the high plateaus of the Lot.
